Therapy FAQs for Somatic EMDR and Trauma Support

  • We utilize a secure, HIPAA-compliant telehealth platform that creates a private, digital 'room' for our work. Many of my clients in high-stress cities like Chicago, New York, and Boston find that being in their own familiar environment allows their nervous system to settle more deeply than it would in a clinical office. Because somatic work is about tracking internal sensations, the 'felt sense' is just as powerful over video as it is in person. All you need is a private space where you feel safe to be real."

  • This depends on what you are working on and the support you are looking for. I typically recommend initially meeting weekly. This gives me the chance to get to know you and allows you to keep the momentum moving in your work.

If you are looking for faster results or have a busy schedule, you might consider a Therapy Intensive instead of weekly sessions.

Check out my services page to compare Weekly Sessions with Therapy Intensives.

  • 50 minute sessions are $225.

    90 minute sessions are $350.

Intensives are 1,2, or 3 days long and come in packages starting at $2000. Interested in intensives? Find more info here.

You can find more details on my Fees & Insurance page, including how to use your out-of-network benefits

  • I am an out-of-network therapy provider, which means I do not bill insurance companies directly. However, many clients utilize their PPO out-of-network benefits to cover a significant portion of the cost.

To make this process easier, I partner with Reimbursify. They handle the “superbill” submission process for you to ensure you get your insurance reimbursement quickly. You can click here to check out your out-of-network benefits and learn more about how Reimbursify works.

  • When we meet, we confirm our next appointment, the time is reserved for you and the expectation is that you will be able to attend (because hopefully you looked at your calendar when we were chatting). If you are unable to attend, or there is an emergency, I do offer one free missed appointment without charging. After that, all missed appointments will be charged their entire appointment fee. If you are able to reschedule within the week, pending availability, I do not charge for the missed appointment.

  • Our first appointment will look different than most of our other appointments. I will have a lot of questions for you to get to know you, and we will spend some time getting clear on your goals. Subsequent sessions we will spend time working on those goals.

  • Absolutely! In starting therapy, you are asking yourself to do something pretty vulnerable and likely outside your comfort zone. In my opinion, being nervous is actually a signal that your nervous system is doing its job: noticing something new coming your way and putting you on alert until you are sure that it's safe. Our job together in the first few sessions will be to help you (and your nervous system) start to feel comfortable working together.

  • Finding a right-fit therapist is probably one of the most important things you can do. Working with someone who is a right-fit will help you feel heard, supported, and connected. There are a few different places for us to consider if working together will be a good fit. 1. This website: check out my about me section where I share a bit about myself and how I work including how I specialize in working with women navigating Medical Mysteries and major Course Corrections. . 2. Our 15 min phone consult: This is a great time to ask your questions and get a sense of what a session might feel like. 3. Our first few sessions: You do not have to know right away if therapy is “working” or If I am a “right fit” therapist for you. Sometimes part of the work is figuring that out together, and that is okay. Today we really like “instant” and “quick fixes.” Therapy is a lot of beautiful things, but it is neither of those. Doing the work of therapy is important for growth and development, and it's okay if you don’t know the answers right away. Working together, we will help you live your way into the answers.

  • If you are a high-functioning woman used to 'powering through,' you’ve likely noticed that you can understand your problems intellectually while your body remains stuck in survival mode. You know you’re safe, but your heart is still racing; you know you’re capable, but you still feel an inexplicable 'clench' in your chest.

Regular talk therapy focuses on the narrative—the what and the why of your story. While helpful for gaining insight, it often stays in the analytical brain.

Somatic EMDR is different because it targets the where. It bridges the gap between your logical mind and your nervous system. By combining the focused processing of EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) with Somatic (body-based) awareness, we don't just talk about the stress—we locate where that stress is physically stored and help your body finally release it

  • No. Many women I work with are in the 'not knowing' phase of a Medical Mystery. We focus on the emotional and somatic impact of the symptoms, not just the label.

  • Yes. Transparency is a core value here. In accordance with the No Surprises Act, I provide a Good Faith Estimate to all clients so you know exactly what your investment will be before we begin.
