Frequently asked questions.
How do I know if therapy is right for me?
If you're struggling with health uncertainty, navigating identity changes, or feeling disconnected from yourself, therapy can help. You don't need to be in crisis to benefit from support. If daily functioning feels harder, self-care isn't creating the shifts you need, or you're carrying experiences that feel too heavy to process alone, therapy offers a space to work through these challenges with someone who truly sees you.
What makes your approach different from other therapy?
I use a somatic, holistic approach that honors the connection between mind, body, and spirit. Rather than just talking about what you're experiencing, we explore how it lives in your body and impacts your whole sense of self. This is especially important for women navigating health uncertainty or medical trauma, where the body's experience often hasn't been validated by traditional systems. I trust your inner knowing and work collaboratively with you to find what supports your unique healing journey.
What if I've tried therapy before and it didn't help?
Many women I work with have had previous therapy experiences that didn't feel right. Sometimes the approach wasn't a good match, the therapist didn't understand health-related trauma, or the focus was only on thoughts rather than the whole body experience. A somatic, holistic approach can feel very different, especially if your previous therapy didn't address how uncertainty and medical experiences live in your body. We can talk about what didn't work before and make sure our approach honors what you actually need.
What if I don't know how to talk about what I'm feeling?
That's completely normal, especially when you're navigating experiences that don't fit into neat categories. Many of the women I work with struggle to put their experiences into words, particularly when dealing with medical mysteries or identity disruption. We'll work at your pace, and I'll help you find language for what you're experiencing. Sometimes we'll use somatic practices to access what words can't reach. There's no expectation that you come in with everything figured out.
Can therapy help if my symptoms are physical?
Yes. The mind and body aren't separate, and physical symptoms often have emotional and nervous system components, especially when you're dealing with health uncertainty or chronic conditions. Somatic therapy helps address how stress, trauma, and unprocessed emotions show up in your body. While therapy isn't a replacement for medical care, it can help you work with your nervous system, reduce the impact of stress on your symptoms, and reconnect with your body in ways that support healing.
What if I cry during sessions?
Tears are welcome here. Crying is often your body's way of releasing what it's been holding. There's no pressure to keep it together or apologize for your emotions. This is a space where all of your feelings have room to exist. I'll be right there with you, holding space for whatever needs to come through.
Do I have to talk about my trauma?
You're never required to share anything you're not ready to explore. Healing doesn't mean you have to relive painful experiences in detail. We can work with what's present for you right now, how past experiences are showing up in your body today, and move at a pace that feels right to you. You're always in control of what we discuss and when.
What if I'm not sure I can commit to regular appointments?
I understand that unpredictable symptoms, fatigue, and life circumstances can make consistency challenging. We can discuss flexible scheduling options that work for your situation.
For some clients, weekly or biweekly sessions provide the steady support they need. Others find as-needed appointments more sustainable given their energy levels and symptoms.
I also offer therapy intensives for women who need concentrated support but can't commit to regular weekly sessions. Intensives are longer, focused sessions (typically 3 hours a day for 1-3 days) where we can dive deep into what you're navigating without the pressure of maintaining a weekly schedule. This format can be especially helpful if you're dealing with significant identity transitions, processing medical trauma, or need support during a particularly challenging period.
What matters most is finding a rhythm that supports you rather than adding stress. During your free consultation, we can explore what structure would best serve your healing journey and your current capacity.
